Inspired by Rio de Janeiro’s outstanding natural beauty, with its intricate topography, rich flora and mineral formations. The Rio Desk explores the beauty of plywood’s different layers and its curvaceous forms allure to Rio’s bays, islands and mountains reflected in water. The lines formed by laminated plywood on the upstand nods to the sky-scrapers along the coastline and up the hillside. On the inset detail, plywood’s layers were revealed in an irregular pattern and highlighted with watercolour, resembling  rock formations from the area. A rounded and angled edge add lightness to the design, while grooves on the tabletop serve as pencil-holders and together with the upstand, creates a barrier for rolling objects, making the desk ideal for positioning in the middle of a room.
